Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove.

Saffron cultivation system in Iran & Spanish olives among FAO’s GIAHS 600 423 نویسنده

fnbnews.com – A traditional saffron cultivation system in Iran, an argan-based agro-pastoral system in Morocco, and an ancient olive tree system in Spain today won recognition from FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization) as GIAHS (globally-important agricultural heritage systems).

All the sites feature unique ways to produce nutritious foods and/or spices using traditional knowledge and skills while improving local people’s livelihoods and preserving biodiversity.

The sites were designated by the GIAHS Scientific Advisory Group based on selection criteria, including global importance, their value as a public good in terms of supporting food and livelihood security, agro-biodiversity, knowledge systems, adapted technologies, cultures and outstanding landscapes.

It is the third time that sites in Iran and Spain are added to the global agricultural heritage systems list and the second time for Morocco. FAO’s global agricultural heritage network now consists of 57 remarkable landscapes in 21 countries around the globe.

Iran poised to increase wheat harvest

Iran poised to increase wheat harvest 600 400 نویسنده

FNA – Iranian agricultural officials said that a bigger volume of wheat is expected to be harvested this year due to increase in rainfall in the 2019 water year, reassuring that the country will still stay self-sufficient for wheat.

Iran has envisaged producing at least 13.5 tons of wheat during the current crop year, which started in late September, said Esmaeil Esfandiaripour, the official in charge of the “Wheat Project” – the government policy to purchase the crop from farmers at a guaranteed price.

He added that Iranian farmers have cultivated wheat in 2 million hectares of irrigated and 3.85 million hectares of rain-fed land, and are expecting to harvest some 13.5 million tons of the product during this crop year.

Crop year for wheat in Iran starts on Sep. 23, concurrent with water year.

Should the plan come into fruition, the country will remain self-sufficient in meeting domestic demand just like the past couple of years, he added.
